This charming 24-page vintage crochet booklet, Old and New Favorites by Special Request, Book No. 238, was published in 1947 by The Spool Cotton Company (Clark’s O.N.T. / J. & P. Coats). It was compiled “by special request,” bringing together popular designs that customers had asked for repeatedly.

The book features elegant lace and pineapple patterns perfect for table linens and home decor, including:

  • Queen Anne’s Lace Tablecloth No. 7050 (60 × 80 inches) — shown on the cover
  • Peacock Tails centerpiece and doilies No. 7444
  • Pineapple Doilies and large centerpiece No. 7768-A/B
  • Trellis mats No. 7715
  • Pineapple Apron No. 7773-B
  • Daisy Shower runner No. 7710
  • Idyll square motif tablecloth No. 7302
  • Star Wheel tablecloth No. 744 (65 × 85 inches)
  • Lucky Star tablecloth No. 7144 (72 × 90 inches)

All patterns use fine mercerized crochet cotton (Size 20 or 30) and steel hooks. The designs are classic 1940s–50s lace work with beautiful openwork and pineapple motifs.

Handwritten note translation (found inside): The note appears to be from the original owner (likely Italian-American) and relates to projects in this book, especially Idyll No. 7302. It records yarn calculations, costs, and measurements:

  • Notes for a “Charles sweater” using 4-ply yarn (back and front measurements given).
  • Yarn set aside for “Remo”: Red Heart 4-ply, 2 oz skeins at 65¢ each.
  • “La tovaglia di Albina” (Albina’s tablecloth) cost $15.60; mentions 40 balls of big ball six-cord thread.
  • Finished January 1957.
  • Instructions for a stole for Remo: 107 stitches, 20 inches wide, 4 skeins.

It also references a grandmother (“crempa born 1839”), suggesting this booklet was treasured across generations.
