This charming 24-page vintage booklet, Dorothy Bradford Creations for Hairpin Lace, Knitting, Crocheting, Vol. 22 (Enlarged Edition), was published in 1948 by Alfred Mayer-Weismann & Co., Inc. (Boston, Mass.) and written by Ruth F. MacDonald. It is a specialized guide to hairpin lace using the Hero “JUSTRITE” metal hairpin forks (in 1½", 2", and 3" widths) and “Malte-Sets.”
The booklet includes detailed instructions on making and joining hairpin lace strips, plus a lovely selection of 1940s–50s projects:
- Baby items (carriage covers, bonnets, bootees, jackets, mittens, shoulderettes)
- Home items (Candle-Light Afghan, Woodland bath/scatter rug & matching seat cover)
- Fashion pieces (“Petite” knitted shiver-shawl and “Siesta” crocheted chill-chaser)
- Many beautiful hairpin lace edgings (narrow to wide, some with crochet finishes)
Originally priced at 35¢, this out-of-print classic is highly sought after by collectors of hairpin lace, vintage baby items, and mid-century fiber arts.
